Invisible Braces

Malocclusion is one of the most commonly encountered oral issues by millions of Americans. The huge change in appearance that a small misalignment in the teeth can make is truly surprising. We, as orthodontists, can help you get rid of the malocclusion and attain that 10-tooth smile that you have been dreaming of for a long time.

Orthodontics is essential in getting a perfectly aligned set of teeth. This way, you can have a contagious smile that everyone would admire and compliment you for. Traditional braces have been used for a long time to treat malocclusion. But, they leave a bad appearance on your smile during the course of the treatment. If you’re worried about the appearance of your smile, then invisible/lingual braces are the ones for you.

What are invisible braces?

Invisible braces are the ones that are attached to the teeth on their rear surface. This makes them stay hidden behind the teeth, but still, work effectively and move the teeth to their desired positions. They are absolutely concealed, which is why they are almost impossible to spot when you talk or smile.

Invisible braces vs. conventional braces

  • Just like conventional braces, lingual braces are composed of brackets and wires. But, they are attached to the inner side of the teeth, i.e. sides of the teeth that are facing the tongue.
  • The chances of the soft inner lining of the mouth getting injured are highly unlikely with invisible braces. This is because, when the mouth endures any injury, the lips, gums and inner lining of the oral cavity do not press against the metal braces.

Despite the changes, invisible braces do not compromise in terms of functioning ability. They are just as effective as conventional braces, and with the added advantage of concealment, invisible braces are definitely a worthy replacement to regular braces.

Would you have to change your food habits?

Certain foods will have to be off your diet once you get invisible braces. This allows them to function properly and give you the desired results in the specified period of time. Also, it is advised to avoid eating certain foods as they could get stuck in between the braces and teeth, making it difficult to get rid of them. Nuts, chocolate, pastries, chewing gum, candy, and other hard or chewy foods are best kept off your diet.

After getting braces, taking care of them become highly important. Make sure you don’t damage them in any way as it could alter the pressure applied on the teeth. Brush the teeth twice a day to remove any food debris that could be stuck in between the brackets and wires. Regular consultations are necessary to keep the treatment procedure in check and for us to keep track of the progress.
